Ecological Construction - Introduction
Twenty years after the civil war, Guatemala still faces many challenges including extreme population growth, illiteracy, severe poverty and crime. In the face of such adversities, environmental and ecological concerns are rarely addressed.
From the beginning, our primary concerns were to create sustainable alternatives and to develop ecological awareness. We deliberately used local materials that are affordable to all Guatemalans. The intent was to build “chemical-free”, earthquake-proof, beautiful buildings, which we adapted to fit the resources of the environment and the skills of the people. We have integrated the construction into the landscape to preserve the lush and tropical surroundings.
